Duo — Privacy Policy
Summary
Duo lets two people who chose to pair share photos, notes and doodles on each other's home screen. Only you and your partner can see what you share. We never sell your data, we don't show ads, and there is no public profile.
What we collect and why
- Settings (language, theme, reminders) — stored only on your device.
- Purchase status — if you subscribe, the App Store / Google Play and our payment processor RevenueCat tell the app that your subscription is active. We never see your card details.
- Anonymous usage statistics (which screens are opened, app version, device model) — via PostHog, to improve the app. No name, email or content. You can turn this off in Settings.
- Crash reports (technical error details) — via Sentry, to fix bugs. You can turn this off in Settings.
- Account — an anonymous account id (no email or phone number is required) and the display name you choose, to connect you with your partner.
- What you share with your partner — photos, notes, doodles and "thinking of you" taps, plus countdowns and your "together since" date. Stored on our servers so your partner's app and widget can show them; visible only to the two of you.
- Time zone — so your partner sees your local time.
- Approximate location (optional, off by default) — only if you turn on "Show distance between us": your position rounded to about 10 km, visible only to your partner, deleted when you turn it off.
- Device tokens — a push-notification token (to deliver your partner's messages) and a random widget token (so the widget can refresh without opening the app).
Service providers
- RevenueCat (subscriptions) — privacy policy
- PostHog (anonymous analytics) — privacy policy
- Sentry (crash reports) — privacy policy
- Supabase (database, file storage, authentication) — privacy policy
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (Android notifications) and Apple Push Notification service (iPhone) — only deliver a wake-up signal, not your photos
Your choices
- Turn analytics and crash reports off: Settings → "Share anonymous usage & crash reports".
- Notifications can be turned off at any time in your phone settings.
- Delete the app to delete all data stored on your device.
- Unpair (Settings) deletes everything the two of you shared, for both of you, immediately. Block & unpair also prevents that person from connecting with you again.
- Delete my account (Settings) deletes your account and all shared data from our servers immediately (server backups, if any, expire within 30 days). Deleting the account does not cancel a store subscription — cancel it in your App Store / Google Play settings.
Children
Duo is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) to use it.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
